Take Your Time The worst thing you could do when choosing a baby name is to rush into it. Settling for second best may affect you and your child for a lifetime! Don't commit yourself to the first name that you fancy. Keep searching until you find a name that you are 110% happy with. And don't forget that you don't need to have a name for your baby before birth. Some parents have been known to wait 2 or 3 weeks before deciding on that perfect name.

What Does it Mean? Some parents don't really care for the meaning of their baby's name, where as others base their decision soley around it. But, in our opinion a quick check couldn't hurt. Do you really want your big strong boy to have a name that means "pretty flower"? If you have a meaning in mind, but don't know what names contain that meaning, visit NamesToBe.com.

Spelling Try to make sure you don't choose a name that ends with the same letter that your last name begins with. This can sometimes make pronounciation a challenge. There are some exceptions to this rule, but in general it is best to keep it in mind when choosing a baby name. Try it for yourself and you'll see what we mean. Letters like "l" and "s" are especially bad.

Say it Out Loud Instead of refering to your unborn baby as he or she or "the baby", try using one of the names that you like for a week or so. Saying it out loud and using it in common sentences will give you a better idea of how much you really like the name. Don't forget, some names look great when written on paper, but sound terrible off the tongue.

Just today my partner Russ and I sat down to hash out a nagging frustration. It took a little bantering back and forth [not without some rise in emotional tension I'll have you know] until we got at the heart of the issue.

Unmet expectations!

Stop and look back at the last time you were frustrated with your life or business partner. Odds are it was because he/she did not meet your expectations.

Expectations of...

Leaving the toilet seat up or down
Making the bed
Meeting you at the restaurant on time
And so on.

These expectations can be small or large, simple or complex, pertinent or absurd; the point is that somewhere in your head you expected something different to happen than what did happen.
So, most every time you find your level of frustration on the rise it is because your partner acted contrary to one of your myriad expectations. Now that you've become more or re-aware of this what can you do about it...besides hoot and holler?

The first step is to identify what the expectation is

For example: My husband expects that we arrive at least 15 minutes early for meetings where we are the speakers, as he likes to greet attendees and take our position behind the podium in a timely manner. When for some reason I get caught talking with someone outside he gets perturbed.
Now before we had a dialog about this and how important it is to him I didn't have a clue. The same holds true for how he and I squeeze the toothpaste!

What are your expectations with your life partner regarding...

Taking out the trash [who does it and when, every day or only when it reeks to high heaven?]
Being intimate
Raising your children
Getting the oil changed
Balancing the check book
Hanging out with members of the opposite sex

And with your business partner what are your expectations regarding...

Time and effort put forth
Taking time off
Doing the work neither of you much enjoy
And the list goes on.

Once you have identified which expectation is being stomped on address it with your partner [when you emotions are in check] and find out what his/her expectations are around the same issue. At times you'll find that your partner doesn't care and readily does it your way, and other times he/she has opposing expectations [like the proverbial squeezing the toothpaste scenario]. If that is the case you have some work to do.

Where do our expectations come from?

Our expectations generally are spawned during our childhood years. I recall when our daughter was about five years old and she came home from visiting our neighbors rather concerned and said, "Jason's mommy and daddy are mad and his daddy went away. Mommies and daddies must stay together." Her expectation was [and still is now that she is 26 and married] that couples work it out.
Take a moment to reflect on some of your expectations; you might just chuckle about where some of them come from. Like the one about the ham...
Mother is teaching her daughter how to cook ham for a holiday dinner. "Mom, why do you cut off the ends of the ham before putting it in the casserole?" Mother stops to think for a moment then says, "Because that's how grandma did it." Fortunately Grandma is visiting and is sitting in the front room reading to her five year old grandson. "Grandma, why do you cut the ends off the ham?" Grandma smiles and says, "Why child, because when your mother was young the pan was too small."

Choose your battles

Depending on the expectation you may want to concede so that in another area your partner will agree to your preference. Determine which expectations are most important to you and which are most important to your partner. Be prepared for some give and take.

Find a better way.

When expectations are in conflict, it is frequently best to sit back and look at what is best for the situation or the relationship. Who takes out the trash may vary according to work schedule and availability. When to take out the trash may be determined by sanitary concerns. When individual expectations clash the fastest way to resolve the concern is to create a totally new expectation that fits you and your life or business partner best.

If you are a workaholic working 16 hours a day and your partner puts in 8hours you need to look at what your business demands and set your expectations to line up with your business plan and goals.

In a partnership, life or business, remember that your expectations may need to be realigned so that they work for the good of the relationship.

disclaimers: Since the algorithm Amazon uses to generate its sales ranking is proprietary, the details contained herein are extrapolated from research and field tests. The resulting consensus finds Amazon's system to provide marginal sales data at best.

To whit, read Amazon's own definition of its system, slightly paraphrased from their FAQ: "The Sales Ranking system exhibits how books are selling. The lower the number, the higher the sales. The calculation is based on sales and is updated each hour to reflect recent and historical sales of every item sold. We hope you find the Amazon.com Sales Rank interesting!" This last sentence seems to indicate Amazon's own perspective on the importance with which the sales rankings should be viewed.

You're not supposed to find the sales rankings informative or helpful. You're supposed to find them interesting.

In actuality, the process is somewhat more convoluted than they let on. Only the top 10,000 books are updated every hour and the ranking does not depend upon the actual number of books sold, but rather, on a comparison against the sales figures of the other 9,999 books within that same hour. What it does mean is that recent activity (i.e. purchases) for that book is trending higher than those 700,000 books it just surpassed. But, don't get excited just yet; since the activity of those 700,000 other books range from slow to stagnant, one or two orders are sufficient to catapult a ranking.

If a book's ranking breaks into the top 100,000, the sales history calculation starts to rear its head, which is why a "phenomenon" book has a hard time maintaining a high, legitimate ranking. A phenomenon is defined by a book that leaps from the high hundred-thousands into the lower thousands (or better) in the span of 24 hours or less, usually due to some concentrated marketing initiatives. Since Amazon's sales history for that title doesn't support the leap, the spike occurs and then quickly drops again.

HOW DOES ALL THIS TRANSLATE TO ACTUAL SALES FIGURES?

Since the data is recalculated every hour and/or every day (depending upon a book's current ranking), it's impossible to get cumulative sales figures, although those figures are applied to the algorithm during the calculation.

No, to get a very rough idea of the actual number of books being sold, the sales ranking has to be dissected dynamically, with the same immediacy as the ranking being calculated, (hourly for top 10,000 books or daily for top 100,000 books). Chart the ranking of a top 10,000 book every hour for 24 hours and divide by 24 to arrive at its average daily ranking. In the case of a top 100,000 book, take its ranking every day for 7 days and divide by 7 to arrive at its average weekly ranking.

Bear in mind that this next piece of information is extremely arbitrary, based upon sales ranking/sales figure comparisons and data received from third party sources. In other words, it's probably completely wrong. But rather than disclaiming this chart until the cows come home, I'll just say this: It is difficult to make sense of something that doesn't make sense. But it sure is interesting, and now, perhaps, even slightly helpful.

If the book's average ranking is: 2,000,000-plus, then perhaps a single inventory/consignment copy has been ordered.

1,000,000-plus, the current trends indicate total sales will most likely be under 40.

100,00-plus, then current trends indicate total sales will most likely be under 200.

10,000-plus, you can estimate between 1 - 10 copies are being sold per week.

1,000-plus, you can estimate between 10 - 100 copies are being sold per week.

100-plus, you can estimate between 100 - 200 copies are being sold per week.

10-plus, you can estimate between 200 - 1000 copies are being sold per week.

In the top 10, you can estimate over 1,000 copies are per week

If you read my first article titled BUILDING A BUSINESS WITHOUT ADVERTISING YOUR PRODUCT, then you should have at least some idea of the type on online community your visitors would be interested in. If you have not read it, reading it will give you a better understanding of this article.

In this article, I will tell you some ways to get the word out about your online community. This is by no means a complete list. There are too many ways to grab peoples attention to list them all here. There have been many books written on this subject.

If you search the web, you will find an unlimited amount of articles for free. Don't get suckered into paying for something until you have done all the research you can about what you are paying for. There are millions of scams out there, but there's also some good books that you can buy.

E-MAIL SIGNATURE One of the more simpler ways of getting the word out, and one that is too often forgotten about is a signature in your email program. Just write up a 1 or 2 sentence description along with the web address. Also, make sure that your email program is setup to send your signature with every e-mail. This can be considered a type of viral marketing. If you send out jokes or other interesting things to your friends and they forward that email to their friends and they forward it to their friend and so on and so on, it spreads your message far and wide.

MESSAGE BOARDS Another place that you can use a signature line is on a message board. Most message boards don't allow advertising, but usually they let you put in a signature line. When you enter your signature it's seen every time you post a message or a reply to a message. Try to find message boards where those who post will have the same interests as those of your online community. The best approach to message boards is to try to find a message board where you can help people. By answering questions and helping people with problems they have, you can start to be seen as an expert on this topic. If you really do know what you're talking about, people will begin to trust you. People like to buy from someone they can trust. If you just show up to a message board, put out this big, bragging advertisement for your signature and post nothing but junk, the moderators of the board are most likely going to ask you to leave.

SEARCH ENGINES The first search engine you should list your site at, is the one you use the most.

They should have a way to add your site to their listings from their home page. After you have added your site, go to the other popular search engines, or do a search for search engines, and list with as many as you can. With some search engines, it can take many weeks to get listed, and that's if you get listed at all! There are way too many search engines on the web to list with them all. If you use this method, you should set a limit on how many you do a day. There are websites that are dedicated to submitting your site to many search engines for you. Some are free, while others cost money. Software, shareware and freeware can be obtained to do the same thing from your desktop. As always, before spending any money, DO THE RESEARCH!! Make sure you know what you are paying for and buy from a reputable source. You should set up a special folder in you inbox to put all of your confirmation emails. This will help you keep track of which ones you've already submitted to. Also, these emails will usually contain your login ID and sometimes your password, both of which you will need to access your account.

SAFELISTS Safelists are very debatable. Some people like them, some people don't. The problem with safelists are that they fill everybody?s email box up with advertising from all of the members of the safelist. This makes it very hard to get your ad read by anyone. But if you can find a way to get their attention in the subject line, they may actually open your email. Just don?t make false claims or your credibility will be shot. If they do open your email, tell them about your online community. Tell them all the benefits of becoming a member of your community. DO NOT try to sell them anything in your email. Right now, your main objective is to get visitors to your site. So get the word out about you and your community. Before you sign up for even one safelist, make sure you open a new email account, just for safelists. If you get a big account like Yahoo! Mail you might can go for a while before you have to clear out your inbox, but if you get a smaller account, you will have to check it every couple of days. If you don't it will become full and your emails will bounce. If your safelists' emails bounce, they will suspend your account until you clear out your email account.

This is only four ways to start spreading the word about you and your community. There are many others. Some are free while others vary in price. I will discuss other ways in future articles.

As you're building your business, you can choose to win or lose. No one sets out to lose, but they do, because they simply do not stick around long enough to win. Winning requires hard work and focus. Focus on what you need to get done and don't stop till you get there.

When you're first starting a business, it may seem like you're not getting anyplace or it's slow, but the best things usually follow the difficult times. You have to learn to FOCUS and stick with things.

Focus on how you CAN do something and not why you can't.

Ever met a person that tells you all the reasons why something WON'T work? That's why they are sitting in a dead end job. They don't know how to think out of the box, or run with something but then they don't want you to be successful since they can't.

If your friends are negative and whiny get some new friends. You become like those you hand around with so look at those friends. Do you want to be like them or would you rather be like those you admire and look up to.

GET GOING

All too often when the going gets rough, the weak give in and quit, and quitters never win and winners never quit. You can fail your way to the top if you just keep on going. Failures are simply temporary setbacks, however on the other hand if you let them defeat you, defeat is permanent.

We only go around once in life, so we want to make the most of it. If you learn to focus on where you want to be down the road, and blaze a trail, create a plan and work that plan you will arrive.

Talk to successful people not negative ones. Successful people have vision and focus. Negative people are fortunate if they can find their way to the refrigerator for another beer.

Why should a business be any different? If you do not have a solid plan and plan to work that plan, with drive and focus you'll be lost and forever wandering around wondering why you are not getting any place. You could go in circles for years.

Create that plan. Take all the shots, and go for it.

Remember you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, so SHOOT for goodness sakes. You also reap what you sow, but if you don't sow, how do you expect to grow?

Replace the "THINKING about it" with ACTION and get going. Don't stop and think of all the rules, and reasons or conditions of the field - Just PLAY.

If we lived in a perfect world and everything fit in perfectly challenges would not exist but then neither would the victories. Victory is sweet, but before you can win you have to play in the game.

Just buckle down and go to work and JUST DO IT.

Recently, I have taken up golf, and I can't help but notice the similarities between learning golf and learning swimming. Both are finesse sports that require large amounts of concentration and practice to get right, and it is unnecessary (and ill-advised) to gain great amounts of strength to make major improvements in either sport. Let's look at some specific ways golf is like swimming:

1. It Starts with Head Position. In golf, you must keep your head still and look straight at the ball while you swing in order to make contact. In swimming, you must keep your head still and look straight down at the bottom of the pool while you rotate in order to get the most out of your stroke.

2. Concentration is Key. The moment you start thinking about more than one thing when you are about to hit the ball is the moment that something goes wrong. If I get 2 tips on my golf swing and I think about both of them the next time I tee up, I tend to have an underwhelming result! The same goes for doing the swimming drills. As a coach, if I give a swimmer several things to think about, inevitably, nothing will go right. The idea is to concentrate on one aspect, practice it, master it, and move on.

3. The Fewer Strokes, The Better.

When improving your score in golf, you want to take fewer strokes to get the ball in the hole. To improve your swim (especially open water), you want to take fewer strokes per length, in order to utilize your energy for the entire swim or triathlon.

4. Follow Through is Important. When you hit the ball, it is important that you follow through all the way with your club. In freestyle swimming, to get the most out of your stroke, you must extend your arm and glide.

5. Power Comes from the Core. Your arms and legs themselves do not need to be incredibly powerful to have success in either sport. With both sports, the power comes from the core- abdominal muscles, lower back, and hips. Legs are used more for stabilization than to propel you forward in swimming. Legs in golf are also used more for stabilization, rather than for more powerful strokes.

Both sports can also be frustrating, but with practice, patience, and persistence, swimming and golf can both present you with a meditative-like form of exercise that I have found to be both fulfilling and fun!

For companies to be competitive, decisions have to be made faster than ever before, and expenses have to be lower. The hierarchical environment did not support fast decision making. Decisions flowed through a chain of command. If a decision was beyond your authority, you would have to refer it to your supervisor, who would then refer it to their manager, who would then refer it to ... and so on. Using the telephone as an effective sales and customer service tool begins before you ever pick up the receiver to answer the telephone or make an appointment or sales call. When you reach for a ringing telephone, you need to put a smile on our faces and then greet people with the same enthusiasm you'd show them in-person. People can hear a smile, can't they? You also need to have music in your voices and an attitude that conveys to a caller that he or she is your top priority. The impression you create on the telephone can help you stand out from other organization If you don't stand out, you lose your competitive edge.

Practice these telephone-answering techniques that can help you stand apart from others:

1. Say," Good morning or good afternoon." (Use these words to trigger a smile)

2. Sincerely thank the prospect, customer or client for calling.

3. Identify your institution, company or firm.

4. Identify yourself. (This is Jon Jeffers)

5. Ask, "May I help you?" or "How may I direct your call?"

6. Listen carefully to the caller's request without interrupting.

How you answer your telephone, creates either a negative or positive impression in the mind of a caller. What you do and say after the first impression is important also. For example, if callers must be placed on hold, give them a choice. Say: "I need to leave the line for a few minutes to check that information, would you like to hold or may I take your number and call you back?"

Callers, who are put on hold, should be checked with every 20 to 30 seconds. High quality service means you never keep people in the dark wondering whether or not they have been forgotten in a Musak limbo. If callers are your most important priority, you must always treat them as such. In our workshops we use an exercise to illustrate how callers feel about being put on hold. In the exercise we ask participants to close their eyes and raise their hands at the end of two minutes. Workshop participant's hands usually go up at about 27 seconds and most of their hands are raised before a minute and a half has passed. Two minutes on hold is the same as five minutes in the mind of a caller.

When a call must be transferred, make certain to identify the person and the extension that you are transferring to. Say: "Tim Connor is at extension 543. I will transfer you and stay on the line until he answers." When the employee answers, introduce the caller and his need "Tim, I have Mrs. Inez Stewart on the line. She would like to discuss...."

Ending your call properly is important, too. Always thank the caller or in some way affirm the caller's value to you and your organization. Say: "I'm glad I could help you, Mr. Johnson"; or "Call again anytime, Mr. Johnson"; or "It's always good to talk with you, Mr. Jones." Then let the caller hang up first. Some folks may interpret this article as containing only a motivational message for your window washing business, but no...this article is a call for action. And a lot of it. Also defined as "Massive action".

I'm a firm believer that a person's ultimate success in business depends on what happens in the first 30 days of his or her business. Just like a house, every business needs a strong foundation to build on. And by hustling the first 30 days of your window washing business, that foundation can be put in place because:

1) Your belief in the window washing business will strengthen (seeing is believing right?)
2) Seeing strong activity early in your business creates continued motivation and excitement.
3) Positive intense action will translate into more customers and more dollars which of course leads us back to one and two.

On the other side of the coin, if you plod along slowly doing a little something here and a little something there, the opposite occurs where you may lose the initial interest or excitement you felt when first getting into this wonderful business. I've seen it happen...and I don't want it to happen to you!

If you've been in the window washing business a few years or a few months, and the first 30 days of your business has passed you by, it's not too late. Just pretend that the 30 days starts today. Right now!

The kind of action I'm talking about doesn't consist of sitting in front of the computer reinventing "stuff", pushing papers around, talking to a few people about the business, or distributing a few flyers around town.

I'm talking serious, petal to the metal, take the bull by the horns, and preach the window washing gospel prospecting for 30 days that'll provide an immediate boost to your business.

Now this doesn't mean at the end of 30 days we can all retire to our sofa and crack open a beer and watch our prospects and customers beat a path to our door. We still have to continue to market, work the referrals, etc, but what this 30 day period does though is crank up the fire fast and make people take notice. Once it's hot, then all you have to do is fan the flame.

Let me put this into prospective for you by talking about the importance of "seeing the numbers" or "playing the numbers game", and how it relates directly to the number of window washing jobs you get or don't get.

A quick definition...when I'm talking numbers, I'm referring to the people/prospects you market your window washing business to.

Business, marketing, and sales is all about numbers. See enough numbers and your business thrives. Don't see enough numbers and your business suffers. Elementary stuff for sure, but now we're going to apply it in the real world.

But first, let me emphasize that it takes a certain kind of person to pay for a professional to wash their windows so you have to see more "numbers" than let's say a carpet cleaning business or maybe a landscaper would. In other words, not everyone is our prospect, so we need to see a lot of numbers/prospects.

And here's how we do that...

Let's use the marketing technique of flyers because it's probably the lowest cost form of marketing available.

If you put out 300 flyers a day 4 days a week every week for 4 weeks, that is 4,800 flyers. Using the average of a 1% return, 48 people will contact you. Out of those 48 people, let's stay really, really, really conservative and say only 40% of those 48 prospects end up turning into customers. That's 19 jobs you just captured in 30 days!

Now I know there are people out there right now saying "I can't possibly do that. I work full-time" or "I just simply don't have the time to do those kind of numbers."

My answer to that is to have someone do it for you.

It'll be the best investment you would ever make. Think about it for a second. You invest $50 to $75 bucks a week in flyer distribution for 4 weeks and get 19 jobs. Again remaining conservative, let's use a low average per residential window washing job of $150 per house. That's $2,850 for a $300 investment!

Um...not to bad, wouldn't you say? Try and get that from the stock market.

And I'd like to stress once again that I'm remaining conservative. Frankly, if you can only turn 40% of your prospects into customers, then you're doing something wrong. You should be able to convert at least 70% to 80%. Especially if you use the estimate package I provide in my window washing system. It does the selling for you.

I'm also not even talking about the number of referrals you're going to receive from the above 19 customers you just acquired, PLUS the fact that you'll be going back in 6 months to a year for a repeat performance.

If there's no way, no how, you can invest any money or spend 4 days a week distributing 300 flyers a day, then how about 200 flyers every day 3 days a week every week for 4 weeks? Using the same conservative numbers above, you'll have 2,400 flyers turn into 24 interested people turning into 10 window washing jobs.

THEN take some money you have just made from these jobs and pay someone to assist in flyer distribution so you can boost your numbers.

This works! How do I know? Because that's exactly what I did.

When I was in the insurance industry and made the transition from health insurance sales to AFLAC (yeah...I know. The AFLAC duck), I bought a mailing list of business names/addresses and must have visited every single business in my town in the first 30 days.

After awhile, the sales manager was asking me to make presentations to the sales force to explain why I was able so sell so much insurance. I think everyone in the audience expected some sort of magic bullet or "secret".

No...just a non-stop, whirlwind of activity the first 30 days.

And once I hopped on board the window washing freight train, this whirlwind consisted of not flyers, but mailing out lots and lots of postcards. A constant barrage of postcards the first 30 days created an incredible foundation to build on.

Use whatever marketing method appeals to you (and what your finances dictate), but take strong action "early and often".

I don't care how you slice and dice it, but IF you work the numbers, the numbers WILL work for you...each and every single time.

But the numbers will not work in your favor if you see "few numbers". If you distribute 100 flyers one day every 3rd week, it won't work. Not enough numbers. Sure...it would work if you're in the pizza business distributing pizza coupons, but we're talking about the window washing business. You may receive a customer or two, but this whole article today is dealing with massive action by seeing serious numbers, not getting one or two customers.

So...are you working on your foundation?

Pick a date to really commit to your "massive action" campaign. Work it hard for 30 days.

Whatever day you pick, reread this article the night before you launch. I can promise you this...come 30 days later (assuming you religiously hit it hard during your 30 day massive action campaign), when the dust has settled and the smoke has cleared, you will be well on your way to a successful window cleaning business with more customers, more jobs, and more income.

As a side note, 30 days is my general rule of thumb because that has worked for me, but pick whatever time period works for you. You might be even more ambitious. Heck, just imagine what kind of business you can create with a strong 60 or 90 days of non-stop, aggressive, push-push activity.

I realize that some folks are only interested in doing one house a week to supplement their retirement income or maybe they love their employer so they're staying there and using the window washing biz more as a side business.

This article is geared towards the person who wants to build a substantial window washing business. And my research has shown that that's the majority of you out there.

The more I thought about this, the more I thought that my weight loss could be the start of an entirely new personality and lifestyle for myself. I can become a person who gets things done, instead of someone always talking about what I want to do.

Here are just a few things that have come as a result of my weight loss.

I have increased confidence in myself.
I have started a new company that is off to a great start, profiting the first month in business.
Increased energy. I have twice the amount of energy I had when I was overweight.
I have started a muscle building plan. I am going to get in even better shape this year.
I have written a book, something that I have wanted to do for a long time.
My self control over everything is much greater. This means with eating, my temper and many other things. I have much more control over my life.
I am able to help other people lose weight. I have wanted to help people somehow for a long time, and this gave me the confidence to do so.

Well, those are just a few of the things that something as simple as weight loss has done for me. Just imagine what you can do if you accomplish a goal such as weight loss or anything that you once thought you could not.

This form of thinking goes beyond weight loss. This could be something as simple as exercising everyday. Or it could be making a to do list everyday.

Any goal or achievement can be used to catapult yourself and your personality into a different realm of possibilities. It can be used to show yourself what unlimited possibilities there really are in life.

So my point is this. Set a goal you want to achieve and do it. Have this goal achieved within the next month or two. It can do amazing things for you and your life. Then you can use your newly achieved goals to help you lose weight, make money, get women or accomplish anything else you want in life. You only get one life, so why not get started as soon as possible.

Bake something you love. Brownies, cake, smoothies.

Turn your anger on to a task you hate doing, you'll be surprised to see how easy it is to do... mopping the floor instead of using a mop get into clothes you don't care about get on your hands and knees and "mop" take out your frustrations with the dirt!

Go for a walk... even if its cold out, bundle up go for a little walk, not only will you feel invigorated but if you look at the things around you you'll see all the pretty things around you and you'll appreciate more of what you have.

Get on the floor and play with your kids, nothing reminds you of being a carefree kid then playing with yours.

Pamper yourself, take 30 minutes to paint your nails, take a hot bath, and read a little, even if you have to lock yourself in the bathroom like I do!!!

The most important thing to remember is to think about you the way you want others to think about you. If you have a bad image of yourself you will send out that image to others.

Be positive and others will see you as a positive person.

I'm not a perfect person, who is? It has taken me years to learn this lesson and it's a daily struggle to remember that I am a good person, that I deserve happiness. So what if when I Iook in the mirror I don't always like what I see... what's really important is what others see and I don't mean physically. How you feel is what others see. I know how hard it is to fake being happy I have done it so many times. Guess what? If you can forget about the things that are bothering you and focus on what you have it does start to change your attitude.

I know many here will think I'm crazy but if you love yourself for who you are now, who you want to be will eventually shine through. We all tend to put too much focus on how others see us (physically and monetary) and then start to whittle ourselves down... "She's smaller, brighter, happier, richer then me," There will always be someone around you who is what we think we should look like or be like. What we need to do is see what we have and focus on that.

Find out what you like about yourself. You may have a great sense of humor, you are caring, you're an excellent cook, you love to sew, paint etc. Focus on good things about yourself. Try for a couple days to write down the good things about yourself and only focus on those things.

Remember nobody's perfect. Everybody has flaws, its how you deal with them that make a difference.

Just sit on your porch with a cup of coffee or tea and watch the sun come up (yeah I am up that early...)

Paint

Draw

Whatever it is you enjoy doing or miss doing now that you are a mom, do it... I know there are days that you honestly won't have time...so just make sure you take at least 2 days a week to do something for yourself.

Even if you have to schedule a time in your day planner till it becomes a habit do that. Is 30 minutes a day too much to start out with? Then take 15 minutes a day!

Yes, I said schedule time for you!

I had to do that in the beginning, I was so used to doing everything. Staying up late to finish an assignment, or finish the last load of laundry, or finish something for work.

Being a mom does mean a lot of the things we are used to doing for ourselves, even the little things are left behind as we try to be super mom! Guess what? All being a super mom does is get you more frustrated! So what if the house is a little messy, so what if there are still a few dinner dishes left in the sink. Go take a break first, and then you can do the other things that are bugging you.

I know its very hard for me to go to bed with dirty dishes in the sink, but I must say there are nights were I decide I've had enough, I go take a bath or just sit and watch TV, after that little break, guess what? I feel energized to do the dishes; I don't dread doing them anymore because I had a few minutes doing something I enjoyed.

Let me tell you this, I live in a 90-year-old house that has terrible water pressure so I can't have a dishwasher so I get to do the dishes by hand! Yep by hand! I like to do the dishes when everyone is asleep, why? Because its my quiet time, believe it or not I have come up with some really good ideas while doing my dishes, but this is after I took a nice relaxing bath or just watched a TV show I liked. See I am relaxed, I feel good about myself I no longer feel like I am being taken advantage of.

I made time for me!

Don't take on more than you can handle, I do this all the time; I love to be able to be the helper. I want to help solve everyone's problems, but then I forget about what I am feeling I take on too much. This only leads to frustration and a feeling of anger.

Many physical therapists in private practice have the appearance of a very successful business that is built on the backs of about four to five doctors. Now if anything would happen to any of these guys, the value of these practices would drop markedly. How can you run a practice for many years and then take a good look at it and realize that you have five doctors that represent more than 50% of the referral base? Exactly how can that happen?

Well, it's quite simple really. When you start your practice you have a couple doctors who kind of like you and offer to send you some patients. We think that we are going to get this opportunity to sit down and talk to him and he will just be elated and send us droves and droves of new patients. Deep down we know that if the doctor doesn't already love us he's really not interested in talking to us, but yet we go out and do it anyway.

Now let's draw a parallel to a vendor that comes in wanting to sell you some piece of equipment, say an e-stim machine. The guy comes in, he brings his device with him, and he sits in the waiting room and waits for you. You come out and say hello. You talk to him for a few minutes and you have no interest whatsoever in buying another e-stim machine. But instead of telling him you're not interested, you're polite and you ask a lot of questions about it. You ask how much it is and are their any kind of payment plans for it, etc. But you know you're not going to buy it. Why? Well, one, you may not need it and two you may have a vendor you prefer to work with. But it's somewhat rude to tell the guy to get lost. It's the same thing with doctors. If you get an opportunity to meet with the doctor he or she most likely is not going to be rude with you. They're going to ask questions like; "Tell me a little about your practice?" And you will go on explaining your philosophy and what kind of treatment that you do and all the letters after your name and what makes you better than anybody else.

Have you ever noticed that when you're talking he's looking at his watch? He's got his hand on the wall, leaning towards the door and yet you continue on. It's the same kind of thing you do when the vendor starts talking to you about that e-stim machine. You say "Well, tell me a little about it." And you look at your watch and you lean towards the door and you dart your eyes left and right towards other patients or other staff hoping that someone will bail you out. Doctors do the same thing. Hopefully we can see that.

There are exceptions to this of course. There are the doctors who know you and love you. They know your good work and know of your competence. Those guys you actually can go and sit down and talk to them and they will be interested in what you have to say because they know you're good and they know you get results. Doctors who don't know that will pretend to be interested in what you have to say.

Have you noticed that some doctors won't meet with you unless you buy lunch for the entire office? That ought to tell you something. One, he's not interested in speaking to you and two, neither is his staff. Quite honestly, you will have better results buying lunch for a doctor's office that is referring to you, but you don't stay. In other words, you purchased the lunch, you make sure it arrives, you make sure they know it came from you and you leave. At least the staff members who were sitting there eating will say something nice about you. Like "Wow, that's pretty nice of that practice to swing by and buy us lunch." You probably forced that practice to have a staff meeting. Which isn't all bad. But if you stand up there and talk for 20-30 minutes about your practice and your philosophy and everything else, believe me, if it's the kind of physician that requires a lunch in order to meet, the staff and the doctor have heard the story and the song and dance many times.

In other words, if a doctor requires you to buy lunch for the entire staff in order to have a few minutes of his time, you're wasting your money and your time.

Let me ask you a question. How do doctors who don't know anything about you feel about you trying to educate them on patient conditions? Do they appreciate it? Do they heed your advice and do they welcome it? Probably not. Of course, your attention goes to the exception, Dr. Jones, who just knows that you're the best guy in treating spine conditions in the state and he will listen to every word you have to say.

All I'm talking about is the doctors that don't know you. When the doctor says tell me a little about your practice, you start educating him about your philosophy of treatment, about how you treat a spine condition that is different than anybody else, or what different studies report, etc. And you'll find that the guy who doesn't already know that you're the best in town will be kind of bothered by a physical therapist spouting off that they know everything. Now many physical therapists feel that they know a lot more than physicians do about physical therapy's ability to help musculoskeletal conditions. They have to keep that to themselves. In actual fact, from the point of view of the doctors, they know more than the physical therapists do. PT's don't have to accept it to be true, but they do need to accept that it's the doctor's viewpoint when they talk to doctors.

It is because of this tendency of physical therapists and practice owners to want to educate doctors on their services, to want the doctors to know they're the best physical therapists or clinicians in town, that they are not the one to go out and cold call doctors. The best person to go out and represent your practice is somebody who doesn't know anything about how to treat somebody. Let me show you how it works. Let's say that you've got this reputation for your spine rehab program, that people woo over it, that it's well know to be the best in town. And somehow everyone knows.

Then you have somebody who is a non-clinician go into their office and have a chance opportunity to meet with the doctor. The doctor says "Well I've been hearing an awful lot about your back rehab program. Can you tell me a little bit about it?" The non-clinician simply says, "Well doctor, I would love to tell you all about it, but in actual fact, what I notice is a patient comes in and they can't even sit in the chair, they have to stand up and hold onto the back of the chair and then after a few treatments they're walking out feeling great. I really don't know how they do it. But all I know is that the program works."

Believe it or not that will create more interest, than if you would have told them how you treat and your philosophy and what techniques you use, etc. It has a bigger impact for him not to know exactly how you treat things. Try it, you'll see. But again, the worst person to represent your practice is the physical therapist or practice owner.

A balloon mortgage, also called a reset mortgage, offers lower interest rates with the option in 5 or 7 years to pay off the balance or resent the loan. Considered more risky than an ARM since interest rates can jump significantly, it is a valid option for those expecting to move or interest rates to drop.

Balloon Mortgage Features

Mortgage Amortization Schedules

Balloon mortgages are based on a 30 year amortization schedule, but you only pay those payments for 5 or 7 years depending on your loan's terms. At the end of that period, you are required to make a balloon payment for the rest of the principal or resent the mortgage at current interest rates. Some financing companies also offer the option of refinancing the home loan.

With its unique interest rate structure, you can qualify to borrow more than a with a fixed rate mortgage. Balloon mortgages also have interest rates lower than a traditional home loan.

Balloon Mortgage Numbers

Balloon mortgages, like ARMs, use numbers to describe terms. The first number is the number of years until you reset the loan or make the balloon payment. The second number equals the rest of the loan term. Together both numbers equal the loan's amortization schedule.

So a 7/23 mortgage means that you have 7 years until the balloon payment is due, 23 year's worth of principal. Adding the two numbers together, your loan is amortized for 30 years.

Reset Requirements

In order to reset your loan, you have to qualify by still occupying the home, having no liens against the property, and having made on time monthly payments for the last year. If you don't qualify to reset the mortgage, you may be able to still refinance the loan.

Balloon Mortgage Considerations

Balloon mortgages don't have the fluctuating interest rates of an ARM, but they don't have the caps to safeguard against extremely high future rates. You may also find that due to a reverse in your financial situation you many not qualify to reset or refinance your home, and have to sell it to meet the balloon payment. In the end you are trading security of a fixed rate for lower interest payments.

Domestic Violence is one of today's most common assault type crimes. It seems as if almost everyone either knows someone who was, or is a victim of domestic violence. Or, they either are, or were a victim themselves. There are a lot of myths associated with domestic violence that unfortunately are grossly misleading. In this article, I am going to address some of those myths and attempt to set the record straight. Who am I, and what qualifies me? Well I am a former Police Officer of over 14 years, and I am the author of the book "Crime Awareness 101."

Police officer and Law Enforcement Job Testing Tips

Throughout my career as a Police Officer I have dealt with a lot of domestic violence situations, and have seen first hand what this crime does to both its direct and indirect victims.

"Domestic Abusers are extremely violent people"

Though some domestic abusers are extremely violent people, they are actually the minority. Most of the domestic abusers we arrested never resisted or fought with us. Why? Because domestic abuse isn't about violence it's about control. The abuser wants to control their victim, and this control is enforced through physical violence, but the underlining fact is control. This is why they will not fight with the police, because they know they will not gain the control. Another example is say the abuser is at work, and his superior (who may even be a woman) asks him to do something that he may not want to do. He doesn't beat the superior up because he doesn't have the control. Yet at home, behind closed doors, he wants and gains the control. This is a difficult concept for many to understand. To help explain this better I have listed a few common control issues found in domestic abusers.

Monitoring the victim's comings and goings in great detail.
Isolating the victim from family or friends.
Discouraging the victim from working, joining organizations, attending school, or leaving the house.
Constantly accusing the victim of being unfaithful.
Belittling or humiliating the victim.
Controlling all finances and forcing the victim to account for what they spend in detail.
Destroying personal property or sentimental items.
Threatening to leave with the children or saying they will never see the children again.

As you can see domestic violence is a control issue. Actually the psychological damage done by this type of behavior is much greater then the actual physical abuse.

"Domestic Violence only happens to poor people."

Domestic Violence has no boundaries; it affects all levels of income. I had a one case where the domestic abuser was an educated male who made a six figure income. His victim (former live in girlfriend) was an educated female who made a nice income herself. They both had good jobs, and lived in an expensive condo. Well he had beaten her so badly that she was hospitalized with a closed head injury. Talking with her later she stated that she could not believe she found herself in this situation. She stated that her abuser was a white collar worker who actually appeared on the outside to be a harmless geek. In fact, her friends couldn't believe he was capable of this. A few days later we were called back to the residence to stand by as peace officers, while the woman packed up her stuff and moved out. During the time that we were there, I noticed how she couldn't stop trembling. She was so afraid that her abuser would come back, and attack her while she was there. This was to spite the fact that two Police Officers were with her the whole time (remember this was many days later). What is sad this was not the first time she was abused, but hopefully with her leaving it will be the last. In case you're curious yes he was arrested.

"

Non drug alternative, anxiety in children, teen stress, non drug alternative

Alcohol drug abuse, stress, and mental illness cause domestic violence"

This is not true, but is commonly used as an excuse from abusers who try to pardon their actions, and unfortunately their victims buy into this. Alcohol use, drug use, and stress do not cause domestic violence; they may go along with domestic violence, but they do not cause the violence itself.

"Domestic Violence is a personal problem between a husband and wife"

Domestic violence goes way beyond just the two immediate people involved. Look into a child's face that sees this violence everyday. Then go visit that child about 10 to 15 years later and see what they have become. If they are male, they will most likely become domestic abusers themselves. If they are female they will most likely become domestic victims themselves. Why? Learned behavior; this was their environment growing up, and to them, this is just acceptable behavior that people do. It takes a very strong person to come out of that type of environment and not have it become part of their adult lives. A child who lives with domestic violence will never forget it.

"If it were that bad, she would just leave."

Leaving a domestic violence situation is not so easy. Many times children are involved and the victim may not have any financial means of supporting themselves. Not only that, but they may fear that they will be killed if they leave. As strange as it may sound, some have a real psychological bond with their abuser, and just won't leave. I have had many instances were we arrested an abuser and the next morning his victim is begging us to release him and recanting her story. This is one of the reasons why the law has changed in many states. Now it is the state not the victim, who prosecutes the domestic abuser.

"I can change him."

This thought is the worst. For anyone who thinks this, read the following carefully NO YOU CAN'T! I have heard this so many times, all from victims who are beaten time and time again. Domestic violence is way too complex for any one person to handle, or fix. You have to either escape it, or have some sort of professional intervention. I would highly recommend escaping it. I have yet to see anyone who has stated this, ever change their abuser.

In closing I want to make one point clear. Even though in this article I referred to males as being the abusers. Females can be abusers also; it is just not as common. I want you to really figure out what it is you truly desire. I want you to commit and focus your energy on achieving these goals. Goal setting is good. Even in its simplest form goal setting can help you achieve the things you want from your career and your life. Goal setting can and will free you from your mundane life.

So sit down and write down everything you want from and out of life until the day you die. These are your ultimate goals. Now right down everything you want within the next 10 years. These are your intermediate goals. Now do the same for the next 5 years. These are your shorter term goals. Now do the same for the next year. These are your short term goals.

You will never achieve your ultimate goals as these are just dreams, without setting shorter term goals to make your dreams a reality. This is where so many people go wrong. You have to set goals on a daily, weekly and yearly basis to achieve your long term objectives.

The reason for goal setting is simple. Without goals, you simply drift. People drift into unsatisfactory relationships, unsatisfying and poorly paid jobs and spend their lives looking at successful people, wondering how they do it. On the most basic level, it's possible to set goals just for one day and achieve more than you ever thought possible, in the form of a simple "To Do" list - where you list all of the things you need to get done and cross them off as you achieve them.

Goal setting is a very powerful technique that can improve all areas of your life. The process of setting goals and targets allows you to choose where you want to go in life. By knowing precisely what you want to achieve, you know what you have to concentrate on and improve, and what merely a distraction is. Goal setting gives you long-term vision and short-term motivation. It helps to focus your acquisition of knowledge and helps you to organise your resources.

By setting sharp, clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals. You can see forward progress in what might previously have seemed a long pointless grind.

So get into the habit of goal setting. Your long term prospects depend upon it.

You need to be careful with forums and posts because some people in them have ulterior motives. Usually, anyone with common sense can read through those fairly easily. Always remember to keep an open mind when reading posts and forums.

If it is a company that sells products and services, then learn more about their products and see how they compare to leaders in that industry. You want to make sure that you are going to promote quality and reputable products and services. The last thing you want to do is jump in with a company and realize that their products are a joke and that selling them is going to be almost impossible.

ASK QUESTIONS

Now that you have done your homework and know all about the company it is time to start asking questions. These questions should be answered before you invest:

1. What is their compensation plan and how does it compare to the industry average? Find out when they send checks and how often if you are working on commission. I have been caught before investing money advertising a product only to find out that I was not going to receive a check for my sales for 90 days.

2. Ask them about their support program. What tools are they going to provide you with to help you become successful? All quality home based businesses, including MLM, know that the more successful you are, the more profitable they become.

3. Ask them if they are going to provide you with proven advertisements and marketing methods. You must be able to promote the business or it will fail miserably!!

4. Ask them if they handle all customer support and shipping. If they do, that it is a feather in their cap. That means that you do not have to worry about dealing with customer complaints and shipping troubles.

Do not be afraid to call the company and ask them these questions. A legitimate company will not be hesitant to answer them. Calling them establishes that they are a real entity with real people working the business.

TALK TO OTHER DISTRIBUTORS

See if you can get into contact with other distributors for the company and ask them about their experiences with the company.

1. Do they pay on time?

2. Find out if they really provide the kind of support they advertise.

3. Inquire about the number of refunds and chargebacks that they get each month. Additionally, find out how many of their customers are repeat customers that order monthly.

The distributors are more likely to give you real world answers to these types of questions. If they are willing, the distributors can give you a really good feel for how good the company is to work with.

3. They pay on time.

Because probate is expensive and time consuming, a responsible attorney first tries to determine if there is an alternative to probate. for several years. The admonishment, for me, began with my work teaching Quality Improvement at Chevron. In that work we found, to no one's surprise, that people often focus on the task - solving a problem - much more than on the process - understanding its causes (and planning solutions accordingly.)

Most of us in western culture can easily focus on solving a problem or removing a barrier. After all, we know what's wrong - just fix it! As all of us know from experience, the bias for action (a task focus) often leads to incomplete solutions, solutions that cause more problems (maybe ones worse than the original), solutions that don't solve.

Go slow to go fast.

By taking time to focus on process - how we solve the problem - and using some sequence of steps that include understanding the causes of the problem often we achieve better results. The rub is that these steps may seem like they take a lot of time. In the moment, that time is often seen as wasted ("Let's just solve the problem!").

Go slow to go fast.

Several current happenings have coalesced recently to remind me of this saying (yes I hear myself telling others in my own voice!) On the flight from Chicago to Oakland recently, I was reading a book and put it down with nearly two hours remaining in the flight. This is very odd behavior for me, especially when I am truly enjoying the book. I put it down because I decided some reflection would make the book more valuable and more enjoyable.

Go slow to go fast.

After I had put it down and was contemplating what I had read, the flight attendant came by to pick up empty drinks. She mistakenly thought my Coke was empty. As she quickly started to pick it up it spilled (mostly on me!) She certainly didn't intend to spill it and she was very helpful in my cleanup efforts. The point is, she ended up spending much more time with me than she would've had to if the Coke hadn't spilled. Slow down to go fast. A trivial example? Perhaps. But often the greatest truths are seen in the simplest acts.

This phrase is also in my consciousness as I work with a colleague to build a workshop on consulting skills. This workshop will feature much time for reflection, personal learning and process. I'm hoping to impress, through my actions, the importance of process - the importance of slowing down.

There are examples, large and small, of this advice all around us. Since I started this Vantagepoints I've seen many! (Including my tendency to hand write notes too quickly, which make it hard for the reader to read, and may cause miscommunication, etc.) I urge you to think about the application of this thought to your life. I am sure you will come to the same conclusion I have - that we can often improve our results simply by slowing down and focusing on process as well as task.

When you come to this conclusion, I urge you to pick one task or problem you are working on and apply this advice. Slow down. Focusing on the process you are using to solve the problem will bring clarity and help you avoid mistakes. It may be a bit frustrating, but in the long run it will be time well spent.

Canton and Fukien: the southern cuisine

The provinces of Fukien and Canton make up the southern coast of China, and are the 2 major constituents of the southern Chinese cuisine. As expected, seafood plays an important role due to the geography. The southern Chinese cuisine takes full advantage of the plentiful supply of lobsters, crabs, prawns, shrimps, etc. They are usually stir fried or steamed with ginger, and onion to eliminate the fishy smell. Seafood is also utilized in their seasonings, as oyster sauce, shrimp sauce, and shrimp paste are widely used.

Fukien, which lies northeast of Canton, features beautiful color, and wonderful mixture of sweet, salty, and sour taste in its dishes. "Red distiller's grain" is a famous flavoring often used in Fukien cuisine. It takes over a year to prepare from glutinous rice, fermented with red yeast, and emanates the most interesting aroma of the red yeast.

Of all the Chinese regional cuisines, Canton is perhaps the most familiar and best known to the western cultures. For hundreds of years, Canton has had extensive trade links with the rest of the world, from land, as well as the sea. As such, the art of Cantonese cuisine has long since been taken and spread around the world to represent Chinese cuisine. That, and the fact that the majority of the first group

of Chinese emigrants in the 19 th century came from the Canton region, further cemented its influence in the west's interpretation of "Chinese cooking".

The mild, tropical climate in the region produces an abundance of crop all year round. Ample supply of rice, fruit, and vegetables provide plentiful feed for livestock, which in turn, produces high-quality meat and poultry. Along with the wealthy of seafood along the coastline, the south has arguably the most extensive array of dishes in all of China. Having all this assortment of ingredients in their arsenal, the southern chefs pay a great deal of attention to the artistic presentation of the dishes, making them especially appealing to the eyes, as well as the taste buds.

Steaming, boiling, and roasting are popular cooking methods, which preserve the natural flavors and colors of the ingredients. The Cantonese have perfected, and are most renowned for the art of stir frying. Nothing epitomizes the essence of Chinese cooking better than stir frying to achieve food tenderness through quick cooking in order to retain the natural taste, flavor, and color of the ingredients. It is also perfect for those who are health conscious, as these Chinese cooking techniques require the least amount of oil.

Dim sum are little southern delicacies served on small plates or steam baskets for only breakfast or lunch. They are pushed around the restaurants on wheel-carts by the wait staff for the customer to pick from. It is especially popular among bird-lovers in the south. After walking their birds, they would visit Dim sum restaurants, hang the bird cages on a rack, and meet up with friends over tea and rounds of Dim sum to relax and mingle. If you've never tried Dim sum, then you are missing out on quite a unique experience.

ALTERNATE AND PARALLEL UNIVERSES: - The modern science of physics has opened many pathways or doorways to the infinite possibilities of 'creation'. Evolution is not the only operational factor in our life and its purpose. Martin Rees is a world recognized astronomer and more. He has recently proposed that there have been many universes and their other components which have been created. The news reports have said that it was a matter of trial and error, until it became right. If so, who can say it is RIGHT at this moment? The theory of the mystics that is covered in 'Harmonic Convergence' relates to this possibility. There are universes outside the known universe according to science as it now stands.

Some describe the process as being like a balloon that one twists a piece off, which becomes a new balloon. Scalar fields of topographies with varying event horizons make the areas of science fiction most appropriate for conveying what is the state of the art in astrophysics. Event horizons or varying time elements also occur at the edge of 'black holes' and in different parts of the universe. The mere existence of 'Black Holes' is not possible to explain the reality of, by old paradigm thinking. Yet, they were known to the mystics and chaos scientists of 13,000 years ago. Energy comes out of them as well. There is more actual energy in the vacuum than everywhere else it seems.

ANCIENT INVENTIONS: - In Alexandria and in the Cave of Hathor there appear to be reasons to believe we had electricity.

There is no doubt that fraudulent traders were using electrum plating techniques to make gold plate on other metals to sell as pure gold. Some think the cave drawings show electrical wiring conduits, and I think it might be phosphorous slush in hoses to make the light by which the cave was painted by artists. There is botanical proof that Hawaii's vegetation is not all indigenous and came from the Caroline Islands of 1500 miles away.

When a native group being held under academic scrutiny and subject to logical linear mindsets actually is able to educate the 'experts' about their culture it is the exception. Often such things are not funded because the data doesn't 'fit' the prevailing literature. Carlos Castaneda was an anthropologist from UCLA who made a major breakthrough on his own. Even his debunkers have to admit he has brought a great deal of insight to the field as a whole. Dr. Wayne Dyer owes a great deal of the thought involved in his 'You'll See it, When You Believe It!' to the work of Carlos Castaneda and his Toltec mentor Don Juan. It is possible that all of our research into human behavior has more to learn than we think we already know. That might mean we are wrong about many key things. One of the most obvious things that our cultural bias foists upon the data is the relative importance we place on intellect rather than spirit.

The story goes that a Christian priest by the name of Valentine, seeing the unhappiness and trauma that resulted, secretly married couples in defiance of the new law.

It wasn't long before Emperor Claudius found out about Valentine's actions and the priest was imprisoned and eventually executed on February 14, 270.

Whilst in prison, Valentine was befriended by his jailer, a character called Asterius. Asterius had a blind daughter and the jailer asked Valentine to cure her, which he supposedly did. Shortly before his execution, Valentine asked for writing implements and signed a farewell message to the jailer's daughter "From your Valentine", a phrase that has lived on, much to the delight of modern day florists, rose growers and card companies!

1. Identify your target audiences: Define the groups that your organization wants to reach. A target audience is NOT everyone in your community! Begin to characterize the demographics of your donors, community leaders and other supporters, and your volunteer base. Focus on methods to reach these groups.

2. Maintain consistent communication: Plan your communications strategy for the next year. Develop a timeline for press releases, newsletters, special events, and other marketing efforts. Develop tangible goals and assign responsibilities to staff, board members, and volunteers.

3. Create a visual identity: Communicate visually as well as verbally. Always display your organization's name and logo on newsletters, reports, signs, and brochures. A memorable, well-designed visual image will strengthen awareness of your organization. Don't be afraid to invest money to make your materials look professional. Your supporters want to see materials that show your organization is responsible, trustworthy, and credible.

4. Use message repetition and variation: An audience is more likely to remember a message if is reiterated in different types of communication. For example, print your mission statement in a brochure, write it in a PSA, and tell it to a news reporter. Slogans are a way to effectively capture the essence of a message in brief and memorable form.

5. Employ multiple communications tactics: Nonprofit organizations often target several audiences, which may respond to different approaches. Various communications campaigns can help establish and maintain a more widespread positive image.

6. Select and use appropriate media: Plan to use a combination of approaches best suited to reaching your targeted audiences and that make best use of your financial resources. Include a variety of methods including phone calls, letters, e-mail, newsletters, PSAs, press releases, and editorials.

7. Develop a strong, well-known identity over time: Building visibility and awareness is a gradual process. Be patient, persistent, and consistent. Reinforce your mission in a variety of ways.

8. Tell the story of your mission: In your communications, let your supporters, donors, and community members know about your good works. In newsletters, press releases, and on your website, tell about who you have helped or what action you have made happen. Spell out the ways in which donations have directly supported your mission. This will reinforce your message and help forge a stronger relationship between your target audiences and your efforts.

Many entrepreneurs just starting out say that their one biggest fear is selling their business to others. In today's relationship marketing focus, much has been said about building the relationship that the sales side of this style of marketing has become a taboo in business owners' minds. However, you have a home based business to make money, and so developing a balance between both sides of the relationship marketing style will help you effectively build your business.

In being able to develop your sales approach, you must also know exactly what you are doing with your home based business. If you cannot articulate your business to others, then relationship marketing will do you know good. The relationship side of this marketing style does not mean that your clients have to be your best friends, just that you need to develop a rapport with them that promotes communication - business communication. Other relationships could develop, but the relationship must start off as businesslike so that the sales side of relationship marketing is not compromised.

Your actions should always be in accordance with your business's best interests, too. Ask yourself that question when making decisions. In relationship marketing, you may believe that doing something special for a client will enhance your business and building that relationship and future sales. However, the act could be seen by the client as more of a personal favor. Always weigh the benefits of the action for your business before making a decision. Despite your ability to develop the sale through relationship marketing, though, understand that some clients will try to use the relationship to manipulate or take advantage of you. So always ask yourself the question before making any decisions

In the end, the most important part of relationship marketing is that it allows you to be honest and direct with your clients. If you have developed the relationship well, they will appreciate your truthfulness, and you will feel more positive and confident about selling your services.

In 1969, Dr. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross published her famous book; On Death and Dying and later went on to launch the Hospice movement in America. Even though her studies focused more on those who were dying than the caregivers that were left behind, her work has had enormous influence on the understanding of various stages of death and grief.

She described five distinctive stages of the grief process:

�€� Denial
�€� Anger
�€� Bargaining
�€� Depression
�€� Acceptance

Although not everyone progresses through these stages in the same order and not everyone experiences each stage, the feelings and emotions identified seem to be universal.

At one time the diagnosis of cancer, AIDS or COPD was a death sentence. Advances in medicine and treatment now sometimes place patients with these diseases in a chronic rather than acute condition, leaving the caregiver with a sense of on-going sadness, or "anticipatory grief."

Anticipation in this context refers to the anticipation of an event in the future. Barring a miracle, the caregiver has a sure knowledge that death will occur in our loved one sooner rather than later.

In anticipation of eventual death, the caregiver changes her focus from the hopes of a miracle cure to ensuring comfort and quality at life's end.

Many of the caregivers I have worked with not only mourn the anticipation of death of a loved one, but also the end of their role in life. They are afraid of who they will become when they no longer bear the title of "wife", daughter" or "caregiver."

The overwhelming burden of caring, worrying and dedication will end with the death of a loved one. What will fill the void? Have they been strong for so long that when death does occur, they will collapse?

Nature demonstrates that almost everything occurs in cycles. Each individual experiences an endless flow of beginnings and endings. Much of our fear and grief stems from our uncertainty about the new beginning and if we will be able to handle it.

The more we can trust that with every ending is a new beginning, the less likely we are to resist letting go of the old. We play a part in choosing what the new beginning will be. We do not need to rush into anything. We have worked hard and with love, and we deserve to rest and regroup.

Trust yourself and trust nature that you will be guided in your journey. Each one of us goes through the cycles of life in our own way. We can see each ending as a tragedy because we will no longer have daily exposure and experiences with our loved one, or we can see it as a new beginning for everyone.
