Choosing Baby Names. Manage Expectations to Reduce Everyday Frustrations.

Take Your Time The worst thing you could do when choosing a baby name is to rush into it. Settling for second best may affect you and your child for a lifetime! Don't commit yourself to the first name that you fancy. Keep searching until you find a name that you are 110% happy with. And don't forget that you don't need to have a name for your baby before birth. Some parents have been known to wait 2 or 3 weeks before deciding on that perfect name.

What Does it Mean? Some parents don't really care for the meaning of their baby's name, where as others base their decision soley around it. But, in our opinion a quick check couldn't hurt. Do you really want your big strong boy to have a name that means "pretty flower"? If you have a meaning in mind, but don't know what names contain that meaning, visit NamesToBe.com.

Spelling Try to make sure you don't choose a name that ends with the same letter that your last name begins with. This can sometimes make pronounciation a challenge. There are some exceptions to this rule, but in general it is best to keep it in mind when choosing a baby name. Try it for yourself and you'll see what we mean. Letters like "l" and "s" are especially bad.

Say it Out Loud Instead of refering to your unborn baby as he or she or "the baby", try using one of the names that you like for a week or so. Saying it out loud and using it in common sentences will give you a better idea of how much you really like the name. Don't forget, some names look great when written on paper, but sound terrible off the tongue.

Just today my partner Russ and I sat down to hash out a nagging frustration. It took a little bantering back and forth [not without some rise in emotional tension I'll have you know] until we got at the heart of the issue.

Unmet expectations!

Stop and look back at the last time you were frustrated with your life or business partner. Odds are it was because he/she did not meet your expectations.

Expectations of...

  • Leaving the toilet seat up or down
  • Making the bed
  • Meeting you at the restaurant on time
  • And so on.
These expectations can be small or large, simple or complex, pertinent or absurd; the point is that somewhere in your head you expected something different to happen than what did happen.
So, most every time you find your level of frustration on the rise it is because your partner acted contrary to one of your myriad expectations. Now that you've become more or re-aware of this what can you do about it...besides hoot and holler?

The first step is to identify what the expectation is

For example: My husband expects that we arrive at least 15 minutes early for meetings where we are the speakers, as he likes to greet attendees and take our position behind the podium in a timely manner. When for some reason I get caught talking with someone outside he gets perturbed.
Now before we had a dialog about this and how important it is to him I didn't have a clue. The same holds true for how he and I squeeze the toothpaste!

What are your expectations with your life partner regarding...

  • Taking out the trash [who does it and when, every day or only when it reeks to high heaven?]
  • Being intimate
  • Raising your children
  • Getting the oil changed
  • Balancing the check book
  • Hanging out with members of the opposite sex
And with your business partner what are your expectations regarding...

  • Time and effort put forth
  • Taking time off
  • Doing the work neither of you much enjoy
  • And the list goes on.
Once you have identified which expectation is being stomped on address it with your partner [when you emotions are in check] and find out what his/her expectations are around the same issue. At times you'll find that your partner doesn't care and readily does it your way, and other times he/she has opposing expectations [like the proverbial squeezing the toothpaste scenario]. If that is the case you have some work to do.

Where do our expectations come from?

Our expectations generally are spawned during our childhood years. I recall when our daughter was about five years old and she came home from visiting our neighbors rather concerned and said, "Jason's mommy and daddy are mad and his daddy went away. Mommies and daddies must stay together." Her expectation was [and still is now that she is 26 and married] that couples work it out.
Take a moment to reflect on some of your expectations; you might just chuckle about where some of them come from. Like the one about the ham...
Mother is teaching her daughter how to cook ham for a holiday dinner. "Mom, why do you cut off the ends of the ham before putting it in the casserole?" Mother stops to think for a moment then says, "Because that's how grandma did it." Fortunately Grandma is visiting and is sitting in the front room reading to her five year old grandson. "Grandma, why do you cut the ends off the ham?" Grandma smiles and says, "Why child, because when your mother was young the pan was too small."

Choose your battles

Depending on the expectation you may want to concede so that in another area your partner will agree to your preference. Determine which expectations are most important to you and which are most important to your partner. Be prepared for some give and take.

Find a better way.

When expectations are in conflict, it is frequently best to sit back and look at what is best for the situation or the relationship. Who takes out the trash may vary according to work schedule and availability. When to take out the trash may be determined by sanitary concerns. When individual expectations clash the fastest way to resolve the concern is to create a totally new expectation that fits you and your life or business partner best.

If you are a workaholic working 16 hours a day and your partner puts in 8hours you need to look at what your business demands and set your expectations to line up with your business plan and goals.

In a partnership, life or business, remember that your expectations may need to be realigned so that they work for the good of the relationship.

Army recovers terrorists' bodies from avalanche-hit areas in South Kashmir. Navigating the Amazon Sales Ranking.

As the death toll in the avalanche-hit Jammu and Kashmir is increasing day by day, the security forces have recovered the bodies of few terrorists who had taken shelter in the foothills of Pir Panjal mountain ranges to escape the clutches of security forces. Little did these terrorists know that they wouldn't be able to escape Nature's fury even if they hide from the army.These terrorists were also buried

alive with hundreds of other civilians in the avalanches that stuck in a big way in three Qazigund villages situated in the foothills of Pir Panjal.

Though the army in Kashmir is not confirming these reports, however the sources told The Statesman that a few bodies with weapons and AK-series guns were recovered from the areas in Kapran which had come under heavy snow. Kapran in South Kashmir is heavily militancy-infested area and it touches the areas in the South of Pir Panjal.

"Yes, we have also heard these reports that few bodies of terrorists have been recovered but there is no confirmation as yet," said Colonel Batra, the Public Relations Office, 15 Corp of Indian Army based in Badami Bagh, Srinagar.

First, the

disclaimers: Since the algorithm Amazon uses to generate its sales ranking is proprietary, the details contained herein are extrapolated from research and field tests. The resulting consensus finds Amazon's system to provide marginal sales data at best.

To whit, read Amazon's own definition of its system, slightly paraphrased from their FAQ: "The Sales Ranking system exhibits how books are selling. The lower the number, the higher the sales. The calculation is based on sales and is updated each hour to reflect recent and historical sales of every item sold. We hope you find the Amazon.com Sales Rank interesting!" This last sentence seems to indicate Amazon's own perspective on the importance with which the sales rankings should be viewed.

You're not supposed to find the sales rankings informative or helpful. You're supposed to find them interesting.

In actuality, the process is somewhat more convoluted than they let on. Only the top 10,000 books are updated every hour and the ranking does not depend upon the actual number of books sold, but rather, on a comparison against the sales figures of the other 9,999 books within that same hour. Simultaneously, a trending calculation is applied to arrive at a computerized sales trajectory. So, hypothetically,

a book that held a ranking of 2,000 at 2pm and 3,000 at 3pm, might hold a 4,000 ranking at 4pm, even if it actually sold MORE books between 3-4 than it did between 2-3.

Books with rankings between 10,000 and 100,000 are recalculated once a day, rather than once an hour. Current projections, as well as historic sales information play a key role in these calculations. In fact, the predictive nature of the Amazon ranking system is what makes it possible for a newly-released book to outrank an older established title, even though the actual sales figures for the latter far exceed the former.

Books with rankings over 100,000 are also recalculated every day and applied with historic sales information and projections, although in the case of these books, history takes a back seat. Sales projections and trending take an active role here, which is why a book's ranking can leap from 900,000 to 200,000 in the span of 24 hours or less. Does this mean the book has sold 700,000 copies in 24 hours? Absolutely not! What it does mean is that recent activity (i.e. purchases) for that book is trending higher than those 700,000 books it just surpassed. But, don't get excited just yet; since the activity of those 700,000 other books range from slow to stagnant, one or two orders are sufficient to catapult a ranking.

If a book's ranking breaks into the top 100,000, the sales history calculation starts to rear its head, which is why a "phenomenon" book has a hard time maintaining a high, legitimate ranking. A phenomenon is defined by a book that leaps from the high hundred-thousands into the lower thousands (or better) in the span of 24 hours or less, usually due to some concentrated marketing initiatives. Since Amazon's sales history for that title doesn't support the leap, the spike occurs and then quickly drops again.

HOW DOES ALL THIS TRANSLATE TO ACTUAL SALES FIGURES?

Since the data is recalculated every hour and/or every day (depending upon a book's current ranking), it's impossible to get cumulative sales figures, although those figures are applied to the algorithm during the calculation.

No, to get a very rough idea of the actual number of books being sold, the sales ranking has to be dissected dynamically, with the same immediacy as the ranking being calculated, (hourly for top 10,000 books or daily for top 100,000 books). Chart the ranking of a top 10,000 book every hour for 24 hours and divide by 24 to arrive at its average daily ranking. In the case of a top 100,000 book, take its ranking every day for 7 days and divide by 7 to arrive at its average weekly ranking.

Bear in mind that this next piece of information is extremely arbitrary, based upon sales ranking/sales figure comparisons and data received from third party sources. In other words, it's probably completely wrong. But rather than disclaiming this chart until the cows come home, I'll just say this: It is difficult to make sense of something that doesn't make sense. But it sure is interesting, and now, perhaps, even slightly helpful.

If the book's average ranking is: 2,000,000-plus, then perhaps a single inventory/consignment copy has been ordered.

1,000,000-plus, the current trends indicate total sales will most likely be under 40.

100,00-plus, then current trends indicate total sales will most likely be under 200.

10,000-plus, you can estimate between 1 - 10 copies are being sold per week.

1,000-plus, you can estimate between 10 - 100 copies are being sold per week.

100-plus, you can estimate between 100 - 200 copies are being sold per week.

10-plus, you can estimate between 200 - 1000 copies are being sold per week.

In the top 10, you can estimate over 1,000 copies are per week

Getting Members For Your Community. Focus and Determination = Success.

If you read my first article titled BUILDING A BUSINESS WITHOUT ADVERTISING YOUR PRODUCT, then you should have at least some idea of the type on online community your visitors would be interested in. If you have not read it, reading it will give you a better understanding of this article.

In this article, I will tell you some ways to get the word out about your online community. This is by no means a complete list. There are too many ways to grab peoples attention to list them all here. There have been many books written on this subject.

If you search the web, you will find an unlimited amount of articles for free. Don't get suckered into paying for something until you have done all the research you can about what you are paying for. There are millions of scams out there, but there's also some good books that you can buy.

E-MAIL SIGNATURE One of the more simpler ways of getting the word out, and one that is too often forgotten about is a signature in your email program. Just write up a 1 or 2 sentence description along with the web address. Also, make sure that your email program is setup to send your signature with every e-mail. This can be considered a type of viral marketing. If you send out jokes or other interesting things to your friends and they forward that email to their friends and they forward it to their friend and so on and so on, it spreads your message far and wide.

MESSAGE BOARDS Another place that you can use a signature line is on a message board. Most message boards don't allow advertising, but usually they let you put in a signature line. When you enter your signature it's seen every time you post a message or a reply to a message. Try to find message boards where those who post will have the same interests as those of your online community. The best approach to message boards is to try to find a message board where you can help people. By answering questions and helping people with problems they have, you can start to be seen as an expert on this topic. If you really do know what you're talking about, people will begin to trust you. People like to buy from someone they can trust. If you just show up to a message board, put out this big, bragging advertisement for your signature and post nothing but junk, the moderators of the board are most likely going to ask you to leave.

SEARCH ENGINES The first search engine you should list your site at, is the one you use the most.

They should have a way to add your site to their listings from their home page. After you have added your site, go to the other popular search engines, or do a search for search engines, and list with as many as you can. With some search engines, it can take many weeks to get listed, and that's if you get listed at all! There are way too many search engines on the web to list with them all. If you use this method, you should set a limit on how many you do a day. There are websites that are dedicated to submitting your site to many search engines for you. Some are free, while others cost money. Software, shareware and freeware can be obtained to do the same thing from your desktop. As always, before spending any money, DO THE RESEARCH!! Make sure you know what you are paying for and buy from a reputable source. You should set up a special folder in you inbox to put all of your confirmation emails. This will help you keep track of which ones you've already submitted to. Also, these emails will usually contain your login ID and sometimes your password, both of which you will need to access your account.

SAFELISTS Safelists are very debatable. Some people like them, some people don't. The problem with safelists are that they fill everybody?s email box up with advertising from all of the members of the safelist. This makes it very hard to get your ad read by anyone. But if you can find a way to get their attention in the subject line, they may actually open your email. Just don?t make false claims or your credibility will be shot. If they do open your email, tell them about your online community. Tell them all the benefits of becoming a member of your community. DO NOT try to sell them anything in your email. Right now, your main objective is to get visitors to your site. So get the word out about you and your community. Before you sign up for even one safelist, make sure you open a new email account, just for safelists. If you get a big account like Yahoo! Mail you might can go for a while before you have to clear out your inbox, but if you get a smaller account, you will have to check it every couple of days. If you don't it will become full and your emails will bounce. If your safelists' emails bounce, they will suspend your account until you clear out your email account.

This is only four ways to start spreading the word about you and your community. There are many others. Some are free while others vary in price. I will discuss other ways in future articles.

FOCUS

As you're building your business, you can choose to win or lose. No one sets out to lose, but they do, because they simply do not stick around long enough to win. Winning requires hard work and focus. Focus on what you need to get done and don't stop till you get there.

GET GOING

All too often when the going gets rough, the weak give in and quit, and quitters never win and winners never quit. You can fail your way to the top if you just keep on going. Failures are simply temporary setbacks, however on the other hand if you let them defeat you, defeat is permanent.

We only go around once in life, so we want to make the most of it. If you learn to focus on where you want to be down the road, and blaze a trail, create a plan and work that plan you will arrive.

Talk to successful people not negative ones. Successful people have vision and focus. Negative people are fortunate if they can find their way to the refrigerator for another beer.

START YOUR JOURNEY NOW.

I like to think of building a business as a journey, like going on a trip. How far do you think you'd get if you jumped into your car to start across country, from Florida to Washington without a road map, compus, or even sense of direction.

You may think you want to go to Washington, but unless you have some sort of map, guidelines or some solid directions, you could be driving for years and not arrive. You need a plan,

a road map and real directions.

BUILDING A BUSINESS TAKES A PLAN

Why should a business be any different? If you do not have a solid plan and plan to work that plan, with drive and focus you'll be lost and forever wandering around wondering why you are not getting any place. You could go in circles for years.

Create that plan. Take all the shots, and go for it.

Remember you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, so SHOOT for goodness sakes. You also reap what you sow, but if you don't sow, how do you expect to grow?

Replace the "THINKING about it" with ACTION and get going. Don't stop and think of all the rules, and reasons or conditions of the field - Just PLAY.

If we lived in a perfect world and everything fit in perfectly challenges would not exist but then neither would the victories. Victory is sweet, but before you can win you have to play in the game.

Just buckle down and go to work and JUST DO IT.

What are you waiting for, FOCUS and go for it! I love watching people grow into great leaders, and it's fun when they realize they can succeed.

Success comes after hard work, but it's worth the effort. If you don't get started though, or learn to focus and keep your eye on the target, you'll be going in circles forever and ever.

Swimming vs. Golf. The Vitamin Companies Don't Want You To Know.

Recently, I have taken up golf, and I can't help but notice the similarities between learning golf and learning swimming. Both are finesse sports that require large amounts of concentration and practice to get right, and it is unnecessary (and ill-advised) to gain great amounts of strength to make major improvements in either sport. Let's look at some specific ways golf is like swimming:

1. It Starts with Head Position. In golf, you must keep your head still and look straight at the ball while you swing in order to make contact. In swimming, you must keep your head still and look straight down at the bottom of the pool while you rotate in order to get the most out of your stroke.

2. Concentration is Key. The moment you start thinking about more than one thing when you are about to hit the ball is the moment that something goes wrong. If I get 2 tips on my golf swing and I think about both of them the next time I tee up, I tend to have an underwhelming result! The same goes for doing the swimming drills. As a coach, if I give a swimmer several things to think about, inevitably, nothing will go right. The idea is to concentrate on one aspect, practice it, master it, and move on.

3. The Fewer Strokes, The Better.

When improving your score in golf, you want to take fewer strokes to get the ball in the hole. To improve your swim (especially open water), you want to take fewer strokes per length, in order to utilize your energy for the entire swim or triathlon.

4. Follow Through is Important. When you hit the ball, it is important that you follow through all the way with your club. In freestyle swimming, to get the most out of your stroke, you must extend your arm and glide.

5. Power Comes from the Core. Your arms and legs themselves do not need to be incredibly powerful to have success in either sport. With both sports, the power comes from the core- abdominal muscles, lower back, and hips. Legs are used more for stabilization than to propel you forward in swimming. Legs in golf are also used more for stabilization, rather than for more powerful strokes.

Both sports can also be frustrating, but with practice, patience, and persistence, swimming and golf can both present you with a meditative-like form of exercise that I have found to be both fulfilling and fun!

Teams. What Level Of Telephone Sales And Customer Service Do You Provide?.

For companies to be competitive, decisions have to be made faster than ever before, and expenses have to be lower. The hierarchical environment did not support fast decision making. Decisions flowed through a chain of command. If a decision was beyond your authority, you would have to refer it to your supervisor, who would then refer it to their manager, who would then refer it to ... and so on. The point is that decisions took too long. Further, considering the time required by the people involved in the process, it was also very costly.

In a team based environment, the boundaries for making decisions and the necessary authority have been expanded tremendously. Now, in many environments, the person doing the job makes the decision. This change in the decision making process has resulted in faster, less costly decisions which, in turn, helps keeps a product or service priced competitively.

Using the telephone as an effective sales and customer service tool begins before you ever pick up the receiver to answer the telephone or make an appointment or sales call. When you reach for a ringing telephone, you need to put a smile on our faces and then greet people with the same enthusiasm you'd show them in-person. People can hear a smile, can't they? You also need to have music in your voices and an attitude that conveys to a caller that he or she is your top priority. The impression you create on the telephone can help you stand out from other organization If you don't stand out, you lose your competitive edge.

Practice these telephone-answering techniques that can help you stand apart from others:

1. Say," Good morning or good afternoon." (Use these words to trigger a smile)

2. Sincerely thank the prospect, customer or client for calling.

3. Identify your institution, company or firm.

4. Identify yourself. (This is Jon Jeffers)

5. Ask, "May I help you?" or "How may I direct your call?"

6. Listen carefully to the caller's request without interrupting.

How you answer your telephone, creates either a negative or positive impression in the mind of a caller. What you do and say after the first impression is important also. For example, if callers must be placed on hold, give them a choice. Say: "I need to leave the line for a few minutes to check that information, would you like to hold or may I take your number and call you back?"

Callers, who are put on hold, should be checked with every 20 to 30 seconds. High quality service means you never keep people in the dark wondering whether or not they have been forgotten in a Musak limbo. If callers are your most important priority, you must always treat them as such. In our workshops we use an exercise to illustrate how callers feel about being put on hold. In the exercise we ask participants to close their eyes and raise their hands at the end of two minutes. Workshop participant's hands usually go up at about 27 seconds and most of their hands are raised before a minute and a half has passed. Two minutes on hold is the same as five minutes in the mind of a caller.

When a call must be transferred, make certain to identify the person and the extension that you are transferring to. Say: "Tim Connor is at extension 543. I will transfer you and stay on the line until he answers." When the employee answers, introduce the caller and his need "Tim, I have Mrs. Inez Stewart on the line. She would like to discuss...."

Ending your call properly is important, too. Always thank the caller or in some way affirm the caller's value to you and your organization. Say: "I'm glad I could help you, Mr. Johnson"; or "Call again anytime, Mr. Johnson"; or "It's always good to talk with you, Mr. Jones." Then let the caller hang up first. Point Your Window Washing Business Towards Success and Profits by Taking Massive Action!. Natural Pain Management.

Some folks may interpret this article as containing only a motivational message for your window washing business, but no...this article is a call for action. And a lot of it. Also defined as "Massive action".

I'm a firm believer that a person's ultimate success in business depends on what happens in the first 30 days of his or her business. Just like a house, every business needs a strong foundation to build on. And by hustling the first 30 days of your window washing business, that foundation can be put in place because:

1) Your belief in the window washing business will strengthen (seeing is believing right?)
2) Seeing strong activity early in your business creates continued motivation and excitement.
3) Positive intense action will translate into more customers and more dollars which of course leads us back to one and two.

On the other side of the coin, if you plod along slowly doing a little something here and a little something there, the opposite occurs where you may lose the initial interest or excitement you felt when first getting into this wonderful business. I've seen it happen...and I don't want it to happen to you!

If you've been in the window washing business a few years or a few months, and the first 30 days of your business has passed you by, it's not too late. Just pretend that the 30 days starts today. Right now!

The kind of action I'm talking about doesn't consist of sitting in front of the computer reinventing "stuff", pushing papers around, talking to a few people about the business, or distributing a few flyers around town.

I'm talking serious, petal to the metal, take the bull by the horns, and preach the window washing gospel prospecting for 30 days that'll provide an immediate boost to your business.

Now this doesn't mean at the end of 30 days we can all retire to our sofa and crack open a beer and watch our prospects and customers beat a path to our door. We still have to continue to market, work the referrals, etc, but what this 30 day period does though is crank up the fire fast and make people take notice. Once it's hot, then all you have to do is fan the flame.

Let me put this into prospective for you by talking about the importance of "seeing the numbers" or "playing the numbers game", and how it relates directly to the number of window washing jobs you get or don't get.

A quick definition...when I'm talking numbers, I'm referring to the people/prospects you market your window washing business to.

Business, marketing, and sales is all about numbers. See enough numbers and your business thrives. Don't see enough numbers and your business suffers. Elementary stuff for sure, but now we're going to apply it in the real world.

But first, let me emphasize that it takes a certain kind of person to pay for a professional to wash their windows so you have to see more "numbers" than let's say a carpet cleaning business or maybe a landscaper would. In other words, not everyone is our prospect, so we need to see a lot of numbers/prospects.

And here's how we do that...

Let's use the marketing technique of flyers because it's probably the lowest cost form of marketing available.

If you put out 300 flyers a day 4 days a week every week for 4 weeks, that is 4,800 flyers. Using the average of a 1% return, 48 people will contact you. Out of those 48 people, let's stay really, really, really conservative and say only 40% of those 48 prospects end up turning into customers. That's 19 jobs you just captured in 30 days!

Now I know there are people out there right now saying "I can't possibly do that. I work full-time" or "I just simply don't have the time to do those kind of numbers."

My answer to that is to have someone do it for you.

It'll be the best investment you would ever make. Think about it for a second. You invest $50 to $75 bucks a week in flyer distribution for 4 weeks and get 19 jobs. Again remaining conservative, let's use a low average per residential window washing job of $150 per house. That's $2,850 for a $300 investment!

Um...not to bad, wouldn't you say? Try and get that from the stock market.

And I'd like to stress once again that I'm remaining conservative. Frankly, if you can only turn 40% of your prospects into customers, then you're doing something wrong. You should be able to convert at least 70% to 80%. Especially if you use the estimate package I provide in my window washing system. It does the selling for you.

I'm also not even talking about the number of referrals you're going to receive from the above 19 customers you just acquired, PLUS the fact that you'll be going back in 6 months to a year for a repeat performance.

If there's no way, no how, you can invest any money or spend 4 days a week distributing 300 flyers a day, then how about 200 flyers every day 3 days a week every week for 4 weeks? Using the same conservative numbers above, you'll have 2,400 flyers turn into 24 interested people turning into 10 window washing jobs.

THEN take some money you have just made from these jobs and pay someone to assist in flyer distribution so you can boost your numbers.

This works! How do I know? Because that's exactly what I did.

When I was in the insurance industry and made the transition from health insurance sales to AFLAC (yeah...I know. The AFLAC duck), I bought a mailing list of business names/addresses and must have visited every single business in my town in the first 30 days.

After awhile, the sales manager was asking me to make presentations to the sales force to explain why I was able so sell so much insurance. I think everyone in the audience expected some sort of magic bullet or "secret".

No...just a non-stop, whirlwind of activity the first 30 days.

And once I hopped on board the window washing freight train, this whirlwind consisted of not flyers, but mailing out lots and lots of postcards. A constant barrage of postcards the first 30 days created an incredible foundation to build on.

Use whatever marketing method appeals to you (and what your finances dictate), but take strong action "early and often".

I don't care how you slice and dice it, but IF you work the numbers, the numbers WILL work for you...each and every single time.

But the numbers will not work in your favor if you see "few numbers". If you distribute 100 flyers one day every 3rd week, it won't work. Not enough numbers. Sure...it would work if you're in the pizza business distributing pizza coupons, but we're talking about the window washing business. You may receive a customer or two, but this whole article today is dealing with massive action by seeing serious numbers, not getting one or two customers.

So...are you working on your foundation?

Pick a date to really commit to your "massive action" campaign. Work it hard for 30 days.

Whatever day you pick, reread this article the night before you launch. I can promise you this...come 30 days later (assuming you religiously hit it hard during your 30 day massive action campaign), when the dust has settled and the smoke has cleared, you will be well on your way to a successful window cleaning business with more customers, more jobs, and more income.

As a side note, 30 days is my general rule of thumb because that has worked for me, but pick whatever time period works for you. You might be even more ambitious. Heck, just imagine what kind of business you can create with a strong 60 or 90 days of non-stop, aggressive, push-push activity.

I realize that some folks are only interested in doing one house a week to supplement their retirement income or maybe they love their employer so they're staying there and using the window washing biz more as a side business.

This article is geared towards the person who wants to build a substantial window washing business. And my research has shown that that's the majority of you out there.

In some situations, attempting to intimidate the other person will actually increase the amount of rapport you gain with them. CEO introductions, meeting other salespeople (and competitors), and sales job interviews come to mind.

Other times its just plain fun to assert a little power in a situation.

Here's the technique for giving a "power handshake" that communicates that you are confident, in control, and not afraid to use it.

  1. Reach to shake first, with you right palm open, tilted slightly to the right.
  2. Wrap your grip around the webbing between his thumb and index finger, just past where his four knuckles join the fingers to the hand.
  3. Squeeze firmly (squeeze really hard if you are greeting a competitor).
  4. Give the grip a twist of about a quarter turn or so to the left of center.

The key is getting your grip first into the area past where the four knuckles join the fingers to the hand.

Once your hand is in here, the other person will be unable to squeeze anywhere near as hard as you can. This establishes your dominance in the situation.

Use this technique carefully. Using this technique on people who are easily intimidated, will only make gaining rapport even more difficult. However in some situations it will actually increase your rapport.

When deciding to write this article, I decided that I wanted to show all the things that not just getting in shape, but accomplishing something extraordinary, can do for you. If you are overweight and lose weight and get in shape, many incredible things begin to happen.

You see I have, in the last year, lost about 35 pounds. After the weight loss, I began to notice that things, once hard to accomplish, were starting to seem easy.

These were little things at first. I first noticed that I had more energy and looked better. But as time went on and I lost more weight, I realized that I had accomplished something I thought I never would. I had gotten myself in great shape, which has been an ongoing struggle of mine for a long time.

I then realized that I could probably accomplish all the things that I thought I couldn't. So this really started to get me excited. I began to think of all the possibilities out there. I began to think of things outside of health that I could accomplish.

I assume this is how many people have become extremely successful in life. They probably reached one seemingly unattainable goal and had this realization. Then they probably decided to shoot for higher and more complicated goals.

The more I thought about this, the more I thought that my weight loss could be the start of an entirely new personality and lifestyle for myself. I can become a person who gets things done, instead of someone always talking about what I want to do.

Here are just a few things that have come as a result of my weight loss.

  • I have increased confidence in myself.
  • I have started a new company that is off to a great start, profiting the first month in business.
  • Increased energy. I have twice the amount of energy I had when I was overweight.

  • I am able to help other people lose weight. I have wanted to help people somehow for a long time, and this gave me the confidence to do so.

Well, those are just a few of the things that something as simple as weight loss has done for me. Just imagine what you can do if you accomplish a goal such as weight loss or anything that you once thought you could not.

This form of thinking goes beyond weight loss. This could be something as simple as exercising everyday. Or it could be making a to do list everyday.

Any goal or achievement can be used to catapult yourself and your personality into a different realm of possibilities. It can be used to show yourself what unlimited possibilities there really are in life.

So my point is this. Set a goal you want to achieve and do it. Have this goal achieved within the next month or two. It can do amazing things for you and your life. Then you can use your newly achieved goals to help you lose weight, make money, get women or accomplish anything else you want in life. You only get one life, so why not get started as soon as possible.
